These porcelain rose stud earrings are made from genuine porcelain set in a silver-tone metal and perfectly accessorize any summer dress. This collection is inspired by the portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln. Sometimes referred to as the “Floral First Lady,” Mary Todd Lincoln’s love of roses began during her childhood. In portrait given to the White House by her son Robert, she wears a gown embellished with roses along with a crown of pink roses in her hair. Famous for her efforts to beautify the White House with new furnishings, Mrs. Lincoln also kept fresh flowers on display throughout the rooms and often visited Washington’s hospitals with flowers for the wounded soldiers. During her time as first lady, flowers were cultivated in the White House Conservatory Complex, in the area where the West Wing and Rose Garden are today.
